Learn to teach range safety officers

This is a private event for members of the Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club. This event is not open to the general public. If you would like to take a CRSO class from us then please contact us.

The purpose of this three day class is to develop NRA Certified Chief Range Safety Officers who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to train and supervise NRA Range Safety Officers and to provide the essential information required to develop Range Standard Operating Procedures.

The NRA Training Counselor who conducts your course will make a recommendation to NRA concerning your certification based on an evaluation of your knowledge, skills, and attitude. You will be asked to demonstrate your organizational and teaching skills through participation in several practical exercises during the course of your training. You will also be asked to complete an instructor certification examination. A minimum score of 90 percent is required for certified instructor applicants (85 percent for assistant and apprentice instructor applicants). However, attendance at the course, or a passing grade on the examination, does not guarantee that you will receive the recommendation of the NRA Training Counselor.

Day 1: Redwood City Public Library – NRA Basic Instructor Training – Required for anyone that can not present evidence of passing NRA BIT within 2 years of the start day of this class. Day 1 is held at the Community Room in the Redwood City Public Library. Do not bring any firearms or ammunition to the library!

This day starts at 9am and will end around 4. Please plan to arrive a little early to find parking. The library parking is $1 per hour. There is free parking about a block away at the Safeway lot.

Day 2: Coyote Point Range Classroom – NRA Range Safety Officer – Required for anyone that can not present evidence of already being certified as a NRA RSO. This day is recommended for everyone as we will be going over the range SOPs for Coyote point.

This day starts at 10am and should end around 6pm.

Day 3: Coyote Point Range Classroom – NRA Chief Range Safety Officer – Required for everyone.

This day starts at 10am and should end around 6pm.

Students are required to bring the following materials to class:

  1. Bring a sack lunch and/or any needed snacks each day. We won’t have enough time to go off site for lunch.
  2. Please bring pens/pencils/highlighters and a small notepad
  3. Range appropriate professional clothing
  4. Hearing protection and eye protection for the days at Coyote Point
  5. Sunscreen/jackets/rain gear if needed

Note: Please register here with *exactly* the same name and address the NRA has on file for you. If the database does not find your information then it will significantly delay processing your course completion. You can look up your NRA information here: https://www.nramemberservices.org/

NRA membership is not required in order to attend and pass the class. It is recommended, however, as the NRA is the curriculum standards body for this material.
