General RKBA Discussion / Re: PIers Morgan Sees the Light?

I don't believe stupid. It's difficult to succeed (for some definition of succeed) if one is stupid. I believe that PIers Morgan will say anything or do anything to see that big pay check with his name on it.

He has no honour or morals. He should be deported.

A great idea. I hope they do well. It would be an interesting business opportunity to create the scenarios. They are going to need new ones to keep folks coming back.

Tactical Equipment / Re: Tactical Pens: redux

As I said above, I love the Rotring Newton Rollerball with Piolet G2 Gel refill. Unfortinatly, the Rotring 600/Newton series are long out of production and the pwns available have gotten very, very expensive.

Levenger (a Pen/Stationary relailer) who carried self-branded Rotring 600 line has come out with their L-Tech line that resembles the Rotring 600. I couldn't resist and picked up a rollerball.

A Rotring 600 it is not, perhaps for patent/trademark reasons it is substantially different:
1) it has 7 sides vs 6 for the Rotring
2) diameter is .5" vs .4"
3) weight 1.9 oz. vs 1.4 oz.

Although disappointed the L-Tech is not a Rotring 600, it's not a bad pen in its own right. It is large, but that isn't a bad thing. It came with a Schmidt  ceramic rollerball refill in Medium (0.7mm ball).

I'm growing fonder and fonder of the Levenger L-Tech, but I'm in love with the Schmidt rollerball refill. So much so that I just ordered a bunch of rollerball refils to fill my other pens.

Schmidt also makes a Parker-style ballpoint refill and a sealed/pressurized Parker-style ballpoint refill like the Fisher space pen refill (my standard refill for Parker Jotters and Zebra F701 mods).

I'm speechless.

LA Police Gear has the new Surefire P2X Fury Pro Dual Output LED Flashlight on sale for $108.50 (MSRP is $155 and Surefire is generally not discounted).
http://www.lapolicegear.com/sf-p2x-fury-light.html

The light is a dual output: 15 lumen and 500 lumen (first click=15; second=500).

I've been carrying a Surefire 6PX Pro (15 l/200 l) fore years and really liked it. It will be replaced by the P2X Fury Pro.

500 lumens is very, very bright -- eye damage bright.

Electronic devices fail. Batteries die (GPS receivers are heavy battery users carry spares).

I've seen many cases where the maps in GPS devices were wrong. The paper 7 1/2 degree USGS maps are spot checked on the ground and should very reliable.

If your going to be out and about you really should carry a paper map and two compasses as back-up to your GPS.

1911 Pistols / Re: Nowlin Drop-In Sear

Many years ago I installed a Nowlin "drop in trigger job" in my Number 2 Colt. It was easy peasy and I have been quite happy with it.

I also used a Nowlin Super .38 barrel/comp on the STI Race Gun Jardine built for me in 1985ish.

Nowlin makes good stuff.

Tactical Equipment / Compasses

In my younger forest dweller years, I discovered the benefit of carrying a compass, well actually two, remember two is one and one is none! Several times I found my dead reckoning to be way off. Trust me, you can not walk a strait barring in the woods without a compass.

The second instrument I purchased as an active SCUBA diver was a compass (in the California ocean, you will never ru8n into the beach swimming west!).

Now days, all my survival kits contain a compass, usually a 25mm button compass for the compact kits and a Silva Ranger Compass for the full size kits. Most of the 25mm button compasses out there are little more than toys and I've been looking for a small compass of good quality.

I've just discovered the SUUNTO M-9 Explorer Wrist Compass. It's 40mm size and comes with a velcro wrist band and ia available at REI. This may be my new "semi-compact" compass.

Training Materials / Re: Video Games

One needs to think about what one is training for. Taking a fortified position? Defending a position? Living through a home invasion?  Like we mentioned in the PPItH class, think/visualize a plan, then do some training.

The US Army taught me the first two scenarios -- not using video games.

http://politicaloutcast.com/2013/05/missouri-legislature-nullifies-all-federal-gun-control/

And what’s even better is that the measure is backed by a veto-proof majority. This means that as long as those representatives that supported it initially are willing to support it again (in the case of a veto from the Governor), it will become law on July 1, regardless of what the Governor does or doesn’t do.

Kansas was brave enough to take the lead in the fight against federal gun control. And now the Kansas Governor and Secretary of State are duking it out with Eric the “Fast and Furious.”

But Missouri’s bill is even better (in part):

All federal acts, laws, orders, rules, and regulations, whether past, present, or future, which infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 23 of the Missouri Constitution shall be invalid in this state, shall not be recognized by this state, shall be specifically rejected by this state, and shall be considered null and void and of no effect in this state.

(2) Such federal acts, laws, orders, rules, and regulations include, but are not limited to:

(a) The provisions of the federal Gun Control Act of 1934

(b) The provisions of the federal Gun Control Act of 1968

(c) Any tax, levy, fee, or stamp imposed on firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition not common to all other goods and services which could have a chilling effect on the purchase or ownership of those items by law-abiding citizens

(d) Any registering or tracking of firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition which could have a chilling effect on the purchase or ownership of those items by law-abiding citizens

(e) Any registering or tracking of the owners of firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition which could have a chilling effect on the purchase or ownership of those items by law-abiding citizens

(f) Any act forbidding the possession, ownership, or use or transfer of any type of firearm, firearm accessory, or ammunition by law-abiding citizens; and

(g) Any act ordering the confiscation of firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition from law-abiding citizens.

It also includes a provision that makes it a criminal misdemeanor for any federal agent to attempt to enforce unconstitutional gun control measures in the state.

Missouri is announcing its complete sovereignty over the feds. They’re even declaring gun control acts from 1934 and 1968 to be null and void. Holder is going to have a fit with this one, assuming it passes.

If this does pass, it will be the strongest federal gun control nullification measure in our history. Let’s hope it succeeds, and that other states follow suit.

The goal is to vent. It's not like it's a cop on the other end of the phone. Just a boiler room. It could be one of the prison boiler rooms!
